Academy Hot Meals

Pabulum Catering

We are very lucky to have a wonderful team of lunchtime staff who work under the direction of a Chef Manager. The academy meals now consist of a choice of a hot meal, fresh bread and fresh salad. There is a choice of puddings including fruit from the dessert bar.

The children at Discovery absolutely love what is being served. "The best food ever."

"It is like being in a restaurant."  Why not let your child try a meal.

Who is entitled to free school meals?

The government has decided that all pupils in Reception, year 1 and year 2 should be able to have a free school meal at lunchtime. This offer does not depend on your household income or whether you receive any benefits – every child in these classes is eligible to take up the offer.

For parents of children in years 3 - 6, if you are on Income Support of Job Seekers (income based) allowance, you may be entitled to free school meals for your children.  If you think that you might come into this category, you may obtain the necessary form from the academy office and return it when completed for approval.

How much are school dinners for those who need to pay?

Academy lunches for years 3 - 6 cost £2.50 per child. Dinner money should be paid in advance on the first morning of each week, usually Mondays via our online payment system 'Pupil Asset Parent'.

Packed lunches

If your child brings sandwiches, please see that they are brought in a suitable container, labelled with the child’s name and class.  Leak-proof drink containers should be provided and because of the obvious danger, no glass bottles or fizzy drinks should be included.  Any remains, empty containers, or uneaten food should be taken home, and NOT emptied into waste paper baskets (ants love this!).

Lunch box ideas

Whether you're giving your child a packed lunch every day, or are just doing it now and then between school dinners, coming up with new ideas can be tricky. The Nutritionist Resource website has loads of healthy lunch box ideas for you to try.

How much does it cost?

Thanks to government subsidies, school milk is free for all under-fives and is subsided at around £15 a term for children aged five or older.

Why should I register my child?

School milk provides your child with essential nutrients. It is also rehydrating and energy boosting, helping to bridge the long gap between breakfast and lunch so children stay focused.
