Trustees & Local Governing Committee
Parent Governor Election 2022
In our Academy we have provision for parent governors and there is currently one vacancy.
The Local Governing Committee and the headteacher, have overall responsibility for the running of the Academy along with the Board of Trustees for the Four Cs MAT.
No special qualifications are needed, and the most important thing is to have a keen interest in the Academy and be prepared to play an active part in the Local Governing Committee work.
Training is available free of charge for all governors and this Local Governing Committee has an expectation that those new to being a governor will attend induction training.
The enclosed sheet summaries the circumstances under which someone cannot serve as a governor. Please note that parent/ carers who have paid employment in the Academy of 500 or more hours per academic year, or who are elected members of the Local Authority are not eligible to stand in these elections.
Nominations must be from parents or carers with children at the Academy on the first day of the elections 14th June 2022.
If you would like to stand for election, please complete the nomination form on our website and return to office@discoveryprimary.com no later than 5th July 2022. You may also include a short personal statement to support your nomination, which should be no longer than 400 words. The statement should cover the following:
- Evidence to extent to which you possess the skills and experience the Local Governing Committee desires (see above)
- Your commitment to undertake training and development to acquires or develop the skills to be an effective governor;
- If seeking re-election, details of your contribution to the work of the Local Governing Committee during your previous term of office; and
- How you plan to contribute to the future work of the Local Governing Committee.
If there are more nominations than vacancies the election will be by secret ballot. If that is necessary, voting papers will be sent to all parents together with details of the ballot procedure.
Please visit the Trustees & Local Governing Committee page of our website www.discoveryprimaryschool.com for additional information and a copy of the nomination form.

LGC Register of Interests 2020-2021
The LGC is under duty to publish their register of interests on the DPA website. It sets out the relevant business interests of governors and details of any other educational establishments they govern. It also sets out any relationships between governors and members of the academy staff including spouses, partners and relatives.
A Co-Opted Governor is a person appointed by the LGC and who, in the opinion of the LGC, has the skills required to contribute to the effective governance and success of the academy.
