Swimming at Discovery!

We are delighted to announce that over the Christmas holidays, our very own pop-up swimming pool has been installed on the academy site by Swim: Ed!
Across the Spring Term, children from Years 1 – 6 will have the opportunity to use the pool and learn to swim!
The children will take part in lessons taught by a fully qualified Swim: Ed instructor and children will be supervised by a trained Swim: Ed lifeguard as well as being supported in lessons by school staff. The temporary pool is heated and housed in a secure modular marquee which is anchored to the floor. It even comes with its own separate changing rooms, within the marquee, for boys and girls.
Swimming is an important part of the National Curriculum - the expectation is that children can confidently swim 25 metres by the end of Year 6. At Discovery, we recognise the importance of water safety and water confidence as vital life skills. Through the Swim: Ed programme, we are showing our commitment to helping the children to secure these skills.
Swim: Ed has made both the national and local news as a wonderful and innovative programme with fantastic swimming and water safety outcomes for children and young people. We are very proud that the children of Discovery will be able to have the opportunity to be part of this project!
