Local Governing Committee

Our governors work as a team that we call the Local Governing Committee.

They are responsible for ensuring that the academy provides a safe environment whilst delivering outstanding quality education. Governors also promote effective ways of teaching and learning when setting the school aims and policies. They do this together with the headteacher, who is responsible for the day-to-day management of the academy.

The Local Governing Committee includes governors who are:

  • Parent Governors who are elected by parents at the Academy
  • Staff Governors who are elected by staff at the Academy
  • Community Governors
  • The Headteacher is part of the group in an Ex-Officio capacity.

A governor is appointed for a period of four years but may subsequently be eligible for re-appointment or re-election.

Meet or speak to a member of the LGC

If you wish to speak to a member of the LGC please email the Academy office and they will pass your details on. The email for the office is: office@discoveryprimary.com

The Discovery Primary Academy Local Governing Committee Register of Business and Pecuniary Interests can be found in the attachment below.

The LGC is under duty to publish their register of interests on the DPA website. It sets out the relevant business interests of governors and details of any other educational establishments they govern. It also sets out any relationships between governors and members of the academy staff including spouses, partners and relatives.

A Co-Opted Governor is a person appointed by the LGC and who, in the opinion of the LGC, has the skills required to contribute to the effective governance and success of the academy.
