PREVENT

PREVENT

Prevent is a government strategy designed to stop people becoming terrorists or supporting terrorist or extremist causes.

The Prevent strategy covers all types of terrorism and extremism, including the extreme right wing, violent Islamist groups and other causes.

How does the Prevent strategy apply to schools?

From July 2015 all schools (as well as other organisations) have a duty to safeguard children from radicalisation and extremism.

This means we have a responsibility to protect children from extremist and violent views the same way we protect them from drugs or gang violence.

Importantly, we can provide a safe place for pupils to discuss these issues so they better understand how to protect themselves.

British Values

At Discovery Primary Academy  we promote values which ensure that our children develop a strong sense of social and moral responsibility.

We prepare all our children for life in modern Britain because values such as individual liberty, democracy, the law, mutual respect and tolerance are embedded within the curriculum and the ethos at Discovery Academy.

In addition, these values are also promoted at various times throughout the year.

Our curriculum is broad and balanced, complies with legislation and provides a wide range of subjects which prepare students for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of life in Modern Britain.

It actively promotes the fundamental British values and it extends beyond the classroom with a range of visits and experiences.

It promotes tolerance and respect for people of all faiths (or none), cultures and lifestyles through effective spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of pupils.

It is supported by a well-rounded programme of assemblies which offer a clear guidance of what is right and wrong.
